Built around
the business brief.

A website has a job. It might be to bring in quote requests, explain a complicated service or show a buyer you can deliver. Fine Mess starts with that job and works back to the pages, words and design that will do it.

You get one person across the whole project. The planning, the copy and the design are done together, so the site reads as one piece of work and nothing gets lost between suppliers.

Before anything is designed

Three things.
One clear plan.

You do not need to arrive with a sitemap already drawn.

Your business

What you sell, who decides to buy it and what has to change. This sets the priorities for the whole site.

Your customers

The questions people ask before they get in touch. Each page is planned to answer them in order.

Your content

What exists, what needs writing and which photos or project examples can carry the story.

The scope is agreed in writing before work starts, so you know what will be delivered and who approves what. A typical website project covers:

  • Page planning and site structure
  • Copy written for every page
  • Design for desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Enquiry form and confirmation page
  • Page titles, descriptions, sitemap and redirects
  • Launch and handover

Every page gets its own address, title and description so customers and search engines can find it. If you also need copywriting or imagery beyond the website, that can be scoped alongside it.

How it works

From your first message
to finished work.

  1. Understand

    • Enquire
    • Discuss the brief

Tell me what you are planning. We talk through the business need, the audience and the priorities.

  2. Define and create

    • Agree the scope
    • Develop the work

Deliverables, timing and approvals are agreed in writing. Then I create the work and share it with you.

  3. Deliver

    • Review and refine
    • Launch or hand over

You check the work and I make the agreed changes. It then goes live or comes to you, ready to use.

Your questions

Start with
the essentials.

Anything else, ask me when you get in touch.

What do you need from me to start?

A short description of the business, what the website needs to achieve and any existing material such as a logo, photos or current site. We cover the rest in the first conversation.

Do you write the website content?

Yes. Copy is written as part of the project, based on the brief and what you tell me about your customers. You review and approve it before launch. See copywriting.

Will the site work on phones?

Yes. Every page is designed and checked at phone, tablet and desktop widths.

Can you rebuild my existing website?

Yes. Existing pages are listed first, and anything that moves is redirected to its new address so links and search results keep working.

Do you work with businesses outside Cairns?

Yes. Fine Mess is based in Cairns and works with businesses across Far North Queensland and the rest of Australia. Projects outside Cairns run by video call and email.

How much does it cost?

Every project is scoped and quoted individually. Send a short brief and I will come back to you with questions or a proposal.
